Here are just a few things going on in my world....for those of you who care...which means you all do, since you popped in to check this page out. :)
I found out that in the University's eyes I am a junior. Not too bad. Sounds good to me. The catch: I am junior in the education department. Who knows what I am in the physics department. I will find that out on Monday when I register for classes. In my majors courses there will only be 3-6 of us in a class. Right now there is the possibility of being the only female in the department. There is a female professor and I am stoked about that fact. Upside: Small classes=better teacher to student ratios. Downside: When you skip class, they know.
I am excited to get registered but I am still quite apprehensive about standing in line with all of the younger students and having classes with them. My fears are petty, shallow, and quite egocentric. I feel like I am 17 again. Will I fit in? What do college kids wear (I don't think my heels, name brand sunglasses, and make-up suggest college age)? Will they think I am old and not sit by me? Will I be that super annoying lady I rolled my eyes at in class when I was 18? The one who always knew the answer and talked incessantly about her children.
Why do I care what a bunch college kids think? I guess, I don't really want to care too much, since these things can't be helped. I do care about being comfortable. I sweat when nervous and paranoid. Not a pretty sight. I'm just experiencing the human nature of trying to be myself but having the comfort of fitting into a group. Does that make sense?

From what I remember, I don't think that you will be enough older than the other college students to stand out. My department had a few nontraditional students, but also graduate students that were more likely to be a bit older. I was (am) also a nerd, though, so I liked students that were serious about school, which slightly older students often were.
I do remember one student in her 70s (at least,) not the norm. She was really annoying, but, kind of cool, too. Her husband apparently hadn't wanted her to work. He had died, and she had always wanted to go to college. It was free for her, so why not? Talk about someone who was there just to LEARN. I hope that we live near a university that offers free classes to senior citizens when I am old. I would love to be able to take whatever classes for free. See? Nerd.
Really, relax. You aren't going back to high school, just college. Just don't ask anyone if they need to go potty!
You'll do GREAT! I agree with Angie...people aren't going to be that much younger than you. You're still YOUNG!!!
The fact that you're wearing heels? Means you're young.
Though, who the hell knows what kind of nasty-ass grunge the "kids" these days are into...
Ha Ha! I agree with Angie - don't ask anyone if they need to go potty and it'll all be good. Most likely after the first day you'll feel much much better.
I finished college at ASU West which had a lot more older students. Some were my parents age and quite a few of them were where we are now, with little kids. It was a huge difference between the youngens and the older students. Don't worry about what you wear, just be yourself. You'll have to let us know how it goes your first day of school. Haa haa, first day of school. I'd be nervous too.
