I have a love/hate relationship with the zoo. I love zoos, and I always have. I just find it fascinating that there are so many species living in our tiny world. I am amazed that we can bring them all in one place to learn about them. I like that we can take our children to educate them about wildlife and wildlife conservation. The more we know the more we grow right? I love that for a dollar you can get a stick and feed birds. I love the baby giraffes and giant elephants. I love that we went on Tuesday and Michael is still raving about it on Friday night at dinner. He was so enthralled with the fact that the hippos were sleeping under water. He has been telling anyone that can listen about the animals. Unfortunately for him, not all that can listen can understand. I just love zoos.

I hate zoos too. I understand that those animals cant survive in the wild and that a lot of them we rescued and wouldn't have a life if it weren't for the zoos. I get that. I just have a hard time seeing some of these animals in such small spaces. Especially if I know it's an animal that naturally covers a lot of ground over the course of their lives. I hate to see them pace. It makes me sad. Also, I hate that zoos are so loud. Animals probably hate that. I know some are used to the noise. I can't help but notice that the animals usually have their backs turned. Some even go to the very back of their enclosures or wait at the door to go indoors. Sad. I just hate zoos.
Now you know I love/hate the zoo.

Blogger is pissing me off. I will post a very funny photo sequence when Blogger decides to behave!

Great pictures of the zoo. I know how you feel about seeing animals in small cages. I can't remember which zoo it was but the orangutans' enclosure was so small and they looked so sad. It just about broke my heart. Glad Mikey enjoyed himself. We love taking Etta to zoos and aquariums, it just lights her up.
Don't forget you have another friend who lives in Fort Worth also, who also loves the zoo!
I wanted to check out the Forth Worth Zoo last time we were there, but never did so. I'm sure it's just like any other, but thought Salem would like it. Anything for the little ones, right?
I haven't been on your blog in a while - I can't believe how big Mikey's getting! Cute Zoo Pics! TW, Patrick want's to know if Scott has located a lighthouse yet ;)
